We learnt talking at very young age. However, merely talking does not mean that we can communicate well with others. Effective communication is about being able to convey own thoughts and ideas clearly to others, hence generate response from receivers. This can be done either verbally through face-to-face conversation and telephone; or non-verbally through letter and email. Effective communication skills are essential in building personal relationship in daily life and also self presentation at workplace.
To maintain relationship with friends and family members, communication plays a vital role. Conversation and interaction with family or friends enable deeper understanding of personal feelings. Good communication keeps arguments and disagreement at minimal level and helps relationship to develop along good lines.
Besides maintaining personal relationship, communication skills are needed to succeed in job interview. Nowadays, technical qualifications are likely to be similar among candidates in job interview. Therefore, to be outstanding, first impression during job interview is very important. Effective communication skills, inclusive of active conversation and listening skills would create positive impact which impress job interviewer.
In my future workplace, which based on scientific research, it often requires the exchange of necessary info among colleagues. Therefore, effective communication skills are needed for working partners to share ideas or thoughts. With great team interaction, positive working environment is created and hence increase work efficiency.
As a conclusion, effective communication skills would benefit the development of my personal social circle and enhance my working performance.

ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing! You'd discussed, in a very concisely written post, a number of very pragmatic reasons how effective communication would and could benefit you in work and in life - good job!
Looking forward to reading more of your posts!
Hello!
ReplyDeleteI see that you have a very pragmatic viewpoint on the need of effective communication, and I certainly agree with your viewpoint. I think that the need for effective communication has often been undermined as the emphasis has always been placed on gaining content knowledge. However, as what you have mentioned, for new ideas to be exchanged, one has to be able to relay his ideas effectively. I believe this is exceptionally so since at the frontier of research many ideas are new and innovative and perhaps to the extent that they may unheard of before. Thus effective communication will place an extremely important role in making sure such new ideas will be understood by everyone else.
Hey Wanting,
ReplyDeleteWow. I am amazed that you actually summarized all the content we have learnt so far!
As we are struggling with our communication skills, we almost forget that "We learnt talking at very young age". Yup, though the learning duration is quite long, for most people the results are not so satisfactory.

Hi Wanting,
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with all the points you have listed out. Communication is done everyday, just like our food intake. We communicate to learn and exchange our experiences and knowledge with each other. Hence, to possess a set of effective communication skills, it is able to boost our learning and interaction. On top of that, it is able to earn us many friendships and good working relationships on the way. It is really amazing what effective communication can do for us :) Hope I can also follow what Jun Xiong commented in my post, to use effective communication to bring about benefits to others as well. I would not want to be the receiving end of this amazing skill but would also want to use it to help others as well, to pass it on...
